Another half term has been and gone and what fun we have had!
The theme has been festivals and celebrations and we have been investigating various cultures and customs.
We began by discussing Chinese New Year with the children. The home corner was reinvented as a Chinese restaurant and during snack one day that week, the children had the opportunity to eat some Prawn Crackers. They were delicious!
We continued our theme by celebrating Holi with the children. We had a great time making our pictures using bright colours and water pistols! It was great fun and luckily the weather was kind to us, enabling us to use the outdoors so we could squirt to our hearts content.
Here is an example of some of the work the children produced.
The following week it was a time to think about our Mummies and what they do for us. We talked about making something nice for them. The children put so much thought into their creations and we hope that you enjoyed a lovely cup of tea!
All of the cards were unique and individual. “My Mummy gives me cuddles” shared one child. “My Mummy gives me food” shared another. UNCRC article:- Children have the right to live with someone who cares about them.
Next we recognised St.Patrick’s day with the children. They had the chance to make a flag each to take home:
And so came International Day Of Happiness. We decided it would be nice to ask the children to think about how they could make others happy. We had some lovely thoughts, ranging from ‘Being nice to siblings’ to ‘helping Mummy’. It was lovely to be celebrating these with the children.
Finally came our last week. We talked about Easter and the significance of it. The children each had an opportunity to make a special Easter hat.
We had Janna come in and talk to both groups about Easter and an Easter surprise. It was lovely to see them so engaged. One child said “Jesus died and rose again”
Both groups had the chance to make some yummy Easter nests. A huge Thank You to all involved, volunteering their time to help the children and also to anyone who has volunteered this half term, whether that be doing computers, gardening, reading, cooking with the children or helping with the general day to day running of Pre-School. Your help is invaluable.
Some of the Friday children had the pleasure of a trip to the Sunrise Care home for the elderly. The other group will have their turn after the Easter break. This proved to be a hugely beneficial experience for both our little poppets and also the residents. The children played, were read to, did crafts and chatted to the residents. A hugely successful time. We were so proud of the children.
Wishing you all a very happy break and we look forward to starting a brand new term on Tuesday 17th April.
